Not for Her

Kate “Not Katie” Bandon threw the wheeled chair down the stairs with a triumphant screech. It bounced down the thinly carpeted steps, cracking and ripping and losing wheels in every direction.

Something had set her off. But no one could think of what it could have been. Until 10:06 that morning, Kate “Not Katie” had been a model employee. But model employees do not throw their ergonomically made desk chairs down the stairs, go running after them, kick the chair carcass with a whoop, and bolt out into the parking lot laughing like a nitrous oxide casualty.

They never heard from Kate “Not Katie” again. But they held a going away party for her all the same, the chance to eat free cake and complain about it at the same time never to be missed.

Kate “Not Katie” had been wound too tight; that was the general consensus from her colleagues at her farewell party. Obviously the fast paced, exciting, rewarding corporate lifestyle had not been for her. What none of them paused to consider was that she might have found something even better.

About rsjeffrey

A thinly published author who is widely read. No type of fiction is off limits, and I even enjoy plunging into the odd, well-written nonfiction tome as well. I am driven by a need to continuously move forward, so expect to see a lot of activity from me!
